2nd Street Market vendor known as “Buttercup” is leaving August 31st after two years with the store. Almost all Buttercup items have been drastically reduced for clearance so stop by the store and find yourself a terrific bargain amongst the brand name clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry, and miscellaneous items such as a Red Wing Pottery jug, Hopi Hearth Dolls, a Gretchen Wilson Angel Doll, and West Bend Slow Cookers!

Our 25-30 vendors are always bringing in new items as their cool stuff goes out the door-especially during the summer Cruise-Ins (every other Saturday 5-9). Of special interest Hamm’s Beer memorabilia and anything Harley Davidson.
Store windows have been updated with a colorful, summer look. Picnic theme on one side, bright red/yellow/blues on the other (lots of guy stuff-beer glasses, sports memorabilia, etc.

One of our 2nd Street Vendors has just brought in two sets of brass andirons. One set is very very heavy, ornate, unique. We couldn’t find anything like it on the Web.

Chairs selling like hotcakes! Okay, day two of the new window brought immediate sales of chairs. Here are the photos promised (in duplicate, why I don’t know) which do not include chairs sold, but new chairs added. Photos also include other, but not all, chairs for sale around 2nd Street Market and Little Shop of Treasures.

Intrigued by the history of Hastings, MN, especially the shop where Buttercup is a vendor, I finally did some investigating. My research is sketchy, so please lend your voice as I try to piece together the history of the 2nd Street Market & The Little Shop of Treasures former building tenants. Bits and pieces of info found on the internet seem to indicate the site was first home to the Pringle Hardware Store, then Jacobsen Hardware, then Johnson Hardware (not sure about this one) then Reis Hardware all in the Pringle-Jacobsen Hardware Building-for more than a century.
According to http://www.dakotahistory.org/county/hastings.asp : “Thirty-five commercial buildings, built between 1860-1900, stand in this [historic] district, giving testimony to Hastings’ past as an upper Mississippi commercial center. Unlike many urban areas in other towns, which undertook post World War II urban renewal projects at the expense of their historic structures, much of downtown Hastings remains intact. ”
